Hi, my name is Nadine Perrin. I live in Owaka which is in a beautiful place called the Catlins, about 30-minute drive south of Balclutha. I moved here from Dunedin a few years ago to be with my husband Blake. We have a gorgeous son called William who is three, and have cats, dogs and rabbits that the children adore.
We live in a warm family home, a big fully-fenced backyard with a homely vibe.
I believe my true passion is caring and teaching children, helping them to grow, develop and learn as individuals. As a child I always wanted to be a teacher and my lifelong dream has come true! I am so blessed to be able to teach and nurture children, and have a positive impact on their futures.
Being in the country we are always outside, come sun, rain or wind. The outdoors is something I truly believe that children should always be experiencing. I also offer many inside activities such as monthly topics of art, messy play, imaginary play, books and literacy. We also attend weekly outings to music and playgroups, and occasionally go on excursions such as a day trip to Dunedin or to the Balclutha swimming pool.
Being in a small town also means that I form friendships with many of the families I have cared for. I believe it is good to have a bond with the families as I care for their children as my own.
I do this job not for the money, but for the love of seeing children develop and grow. They bring much happiness to my life as I feel I am making a positive impact on a child’s life. Just seeing children’s smiles and hearing their laughter each day is enough to keep me doing what I do.
